India Rejects Hague Court Ruling on Indus Waters Treaty

India has formally rejected a ruling issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague concerning the Indus Waters Treaty, a water‑sharing agreement signed in 1960 between India and Pakistan. In a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs, Delhi said the ICJ had no jurisdiction over the dispute and that the court was an "illegally‑constituted" body. The ministry further added that India has never recognised the existence in law of the so‑called Court of Arbitration, and therefore rejects any decision issued by it. The ruling, which was expected to clarify the legal status of the treaty, now faces a diplomatic dead‑end as India refuses to acknowledge the court’s authority.
