Swedish economist Daniel Waldenström warned that Europe's excessive regulation could lead to economic stagnation, and he urged India to adopt a growth-friendly approach.

Swedish economist Daniel Waldenström made a statement on Moneycontrol.com, cautioning that Europe's current regulatory framework may be contributing to a slowdown in economic growth. He argued that high compliance costs and stringent rules can stifle entrepreneurship and innovation across the continent.

Waldenström, who has served as a chief economist at the European Central Bank, highlighted that the cumulative effect of these regulations could lead to a broader stagnation in the European economy. He pointed out that businesses often face increased administrative burdens, which can deter investment and reduce competitiveness.

In contrast, Waldenström praised India’s relatively flexible regulatory environment, suggesting that it offers a more conducive setting for startups and foreign investors. He urged Indian policymakers to continue fostering a growth-friendly climate that balances regulation with innovation.

The economist’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over the pace and scope of regulatory reforms in Europe, with policymakers grappling with how best to maintain stability while encouraging growth.
