India and Sri Lanka have announced a joint defence bridge initiative aimed at enhancing military cooperation and strategic connectivity between the two nations.
India and Sri Lanka have unveiled a new defence bridge initiative designed to deepen military cooperation and strengthen strategic links between the two countries. The programme, announced in a joint statement by the Defence Ministers of both nations, will focus on joint exercises, intelligence sharing and coordinated procurement of defence equipment.
The launch event took place in Delhi, where officials highlighted the importance of a robust defence partnership for regional stability. Both sides pledged to establish a joint task force to oversee the implementation of the initiative and to facilitate regular exchanges between armed forces.
Experts note that the bridge will also support capacity‑building efforts, including training of personnel and the development of joint operational doctrines. The initiative is seen as a key step in reinforcing India’s role as a security partner in the Indian Ocean Region.
