The India Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms for several southern states on October 18, urging residents to stay alert.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released its weather outlook for October 18, indicating widespread heavy rain and thunderstorms across the southern states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Meteorologists expect the system to develop over the Bay of Bengal and move inland, bringing intense downpours and gusty winds.

Authorities have warned that the heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding, waterlogging in urban areas and disruptions to road and rail traffic. Residents in the affected regions are advised to avoid non‑essential travel, keep emergency kits ready and follow updates from local officials.

The forecast forms part of IMD’s regular monsoon monitoring and follows a series of similar weather disturbances that have hit the south in recent weeks, prompting heightened vigilance among disaster‑management agencies.
