The India Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand as the monsoon intensifies, urging residents to stay prepared.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a rain alert today for the states of Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand as the monsoon system moves eastward across the subcontinent. Meteorologists noted a marked increase in moisture content and the likelihood of moderate to heavy showers over the next 48 hours.
Forecast models predict intermittent downpours that could accumulate up to 50 mm in some districts, raising the risk of localized flooding, especially in low‑lying and river‑bank areas. Authorities in both states have been advised to monitor water levels in rivers and canals closely.
The IMD has urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall periods, and follow instructions from local disaster management teams. Emergency services have been placed on standby to respond to any incidents arising from sudden waterlogging or landslides.
In addition to the alert for Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand, the department highlighted that several hilly regions, including parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and the northeastern states, are also under watch for potential heavy rain and related hazards.
