The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall across Kerala, Uttarakhand and several southern states, urging residents to stay alert.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) released an advisory today forecasting intense rain over Kerala, Uttarakhand and parts of southern India over the next few days. Meteorologists attribute the system to a deepening low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea that is expected to move eastward, bringing widespread precipitation.
IMD predicts that some districts could receive up to 150 mm of rain within 24 hours, raising the risk of flash floods, river overflows and landslides, especially in hilly terrain of Uttarakhand and coastal lowlands of Kerala. Authorities in the affected states have been instructed to monitor water levels and prepare emergency response teams.
The department has urged the public to avoid non-essential travel in flood‑prone zones, secure loose objects, and follow instructions from local disaster management officials. Residents are also advised to keep emergency kits ready and stay tuned to official updates through radio, television and digital platforms.
