The Inspector General of the Central Range has overseen the deployment of 36 police platoons to safeguard 1,243 Durga Puja pandals, aiming for a trouble‑free festival season.
The Inspector General (IG) of the Central Range conducted a comprehensive security review ahead of the Durga Puja celebrations, authorising the deployment of 36 police platoons across the region. The force will monitor and protect a total of 1,243 pandals that are set to host millions of devotees during the week‑long festival.
According to the police briefing, the platoons have been assigned to high‑traffic zones, major cultural venues and densely populated neighbourhoods where pandals are concentrated. Their duties include crowd management, rapid response to any untoward incident, and coordination with local law‑enforcement units.
The move reflects heightened vigilance after previous years saw isolated disturbances and concerns over crowd safety. Officials emphasized that the deployment is part of a broader security framework that also involves surveillance cameras, emergency medical teams and traffic regulation measures.
Police authorities have urged the public to cooperate with security personnel, follow crowd‑control instructions and report any suspicious activity. The IG assured that the extensive police presence aims to ensure that the Durga Puja festivities proceed without disruption.
The deployment comes as the state prepares for one of its biggest cultural events, with pandals expected to attract both domestic and international visitors, underscoring the importance of maintaining order and safety throughout the celebrations.
