Home Minister Amit Shah announced a fund of ₹8,941 crore for the Yamuna river rejuvenation and inaugurated 43 Delhi Jal Board projects aimed at cleaning the waterway.
During a high‑profile event in Delhi, Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a fresh allocation of ₹8,941 crore dedicated to the rejuvenation of the Yamuna River. The massive outlay is part of the central government's push to restore the river’s ecological health and improve water quality for millions of residents.
Shah described the funding as the "backbone of cleaning" efforts, emphasizing that the money will be channeled into comprehensive measures such as sewage interception, riverfront development, and advanced treatment facilities. He stressed that sustained investment is essential to reverse decades of pollution.
The minister also laid foundation stones for 43 projects under the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). These initiatives include new sewage treatment plants, riverbank embankments, and community‑level sanitation schemes designed to curb waste discharge into the Yamuna.
Officials expect the combined financial and infrastructural push to deliver measurable improvements in water quality within the next few years, aligning with the broader national agenda of river conservation.
