The Himachal Pradesh government has constituted a commission to examine the feasibility of creating new districts and reorganising existing administrative units.
The Himachal Pradesh government announced the formation of a high‑level commission tasked with evaluating the possibility of carving out new districts and restructuring current administrative divisions.
The commission will include senior bureaucrats and officials from key departments such as Home and Rural Development, and it will undertake a detailed study of demographic, geographic and infrastructural parameters to formulate recommendations.
Should the commission propose new districts, the state may redraw boundaries, set up additional district headquarters and reallocate resources, aiming to improve governance and public service delivery in remote and hilly areas.
The move responds to longstanding demands from local representatives and communities seeking better administrative access, especially where travel to existing district centers is difficult.
