The Himachal Pradesh High Court has ruled that school buses older than 15 years cannot be used, citing student safety concerns.

The Himachal Pradesh High Court today upheld a ban on the use of school vehicles that are older than 15 years. The court’s decision was based on concerns over the safety of students travelling in outdated buses.

In its ruling, the court highlighted that older school buses often lack modern safety features and are more prone to mechanical failures. The decision aims to protect students, who are considered “precious” and vulnerable.

The ban will require schools across the state to retire or replace their older buses. Administrators are expected to seek newer vehicles or retrofit existing ones with updated safety equipment.

The ruling follows a growing debate over school transport safety in Himachal Pradesh and underscores the judiciary’s role in safeguarding children’s well‑being.
