The Himachal Pradesh High Court has set aside the earlier rejection of the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission’s panel and directed that a new panel be appointed by 10 November.
The Himachal Pradesh High Court has overturned the decision that rejected the composition of the Himachal Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (HPERC) panel. In its order, the court directed the state government to appoint a fresh panel without further delay.
The judgment came after petitions were filed challenging the earlier rejection, which had raised concerns about the regulatory body’s ability to function effectively. The court emphasized the importance of an operational HPERC for overseeing electricity tariffs, licensing and consumer protection in the state.
A deadline of 10 November has been fixed for the appointment, signalling the court’s intent to ensure compliance promptly. Failure to meet the timeline could invite contempt proceedings, the order warned.
State officials are expected to submit a list of suitable candidates to the court within the stipulated period, after which the HPERC will be reconstituted to resume its regulatory duties.
