The Rajasthan High Court has cautioned that unchecked construction and encroachments around Jaipur's heritage sites could jeopardise its UNESCO World Heritage designation.

The Rajasthan High Court issued a stern warning today that illegal buildings and encroachments around Jaipur’s heritage precincts threaten the city’s UNESCO World Heritage status.

Judges highlighted that numerous unauthorized structures have sprung up in proximity to key monuments, including the City Palace and the Jantar Mantar observatory, compromising the integrity of the historic landscape.

The court stressed that any further encroachment could lead to a downgrade or removal of the UNESCO designation, which would have significant economic and cultural repercussions for Jaipur.

It directed the state government to enforce existing heritage protection laws and to initiate immediate demolition of the illegal constructions, or face potential legal action.
