The High Court has condemned Haryana for a three‑year delay in addressing alleged misappropriation of MGNREGA funds and has warned that an independent investigation will be launched.
The High Court of Haryana has publicly rebuked the state government for its inaction over a three‑year period during which alleged misappropriation of MGNREGA funds was reported. The court’s order, issued today, highlights the failure of state authorities to investigate the matter promptly.
In its judgment, the court noted that the delay has undermined public confidence in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act. It further stressed that the lack of timely action could constitute a breach of the scheme’s statutory obligations.
The High Court has directed that an independent probe be initiated immediately to ascertain the extent of the alleged misappropriation. The court warned that failure to comply could lead to further legal consequences for the state machinery.
