Heavy rain across Punjab has stalled the ongoing paddy procurement drive, prompting authorities to declare a red alert in seven districts.
Heavy rainfall swept through large parts of Punjab this week, causing waterlogging in many agricultural zones. The deluge coincided with the state’s scheduled paddy procurement period, forcing procurement officials to suspend collection activities in affected areas.
The Punjab government has placed seven districts under a red alert, signalling severe weather conditions and urging farmers and field officers to exercise caution. District officials are monitoring the situation closely and have instructed procurement staff to delay field visits until the rain subsides.
The interruption may delay the delivery of paddy to state warehouses, potentially affecting the timing of payments to farmers. Authorities have assured that once the weather stabilises, procurement operations will resume promptly to minimise financial impact on cultivators.
