Heavy Rain at Delhi IGI Airport Delays Over 400 Flights, Floods Access Roads

Heavy rain across Delhi has forced the IGI Airport to suspend or delay more than 400 flights, while waterlogged roads have hampered access to the terminal.
Delhi's meteorological department issued a weather alert on Tuesday as intense rainfall swept across the National Capital. The downpour hit Indira Gandhi International Airport, prompting the airport authority to halt or delay more than 400 scheduled flights across domestic and international routes.
Airlines reported a mix of cancellations and rescheduling, with passengers stranded in the terminal and on the tarmac. Ground handling crews struggled to clear runways and taxiways, while visibility fell below safe limits, forcing air traffic controllers to impose spacing restrictions.
The heavy rain also caused water to overflow onto the main access roads leading to the airport, creating localized flooding that slowed down vehicular traffic and disrupted shuttle services. Delhi police and the airport's emergency response team have deployed water‑pumps and traffic diversions to restore movement, but commuters were advised to seek alternate routes until conditions improve.
