A Deputy Director of the Health Department in Sivaganga, Virudhunagar district, was arrested by Anti-Corruption Police for demanding a bribe to release vehicle rental payments.

The Deputy Director of the Health Department, Jagaveer Pandian, has been arrested by Anti-Corruption Police in Sivaganga, Virudhunagar district, for demanding a bribe of Rs 5,000. The official allegedly sought the money to release the rental charges for a vehicle operating under the National Health Mission.

The complainant, Pandeeswaran, 31, a resident of Ethigottai in Virudhunagar district, stated that his car is hired on a monthly contract basis to serve the mobile team of the Child Protection Scheme at the Thaipatti Primary Health Centre. The vehicle operates under the National Health Mission framework within the Sivaganga health division.

According to the complaint, Jagaveer Pandian demanded Rs 2,500 per month, totaling Rs 5,000, to release the rental payments for August and September. Refusing to pay the bribe, Pandeeswaran lodged a complaint with the Virudhunagar district Anti-Corruption Branch.

Following instructions from Anti-Corruption officials, the complainant handed over currency notes marked with chemicals to the Deputy Director. Officers led by DSP Ramachandran and Inspector Poominathan arrested Jagaveer Pandian red-handed upon receiving the marked notes.
