The Haryana government has instructed fuel pumps in its National Capital Region districts to refuse fuel to vehicles lacking a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate.

The state government of Haryana issued an order directing all fuel stations located in its National Capital Region (NCR) districts to cease dispensing fuel to any vehicle that does not present a current Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate. The directive, which came into effect immediately, targets petrol pumps in districts such as Gurgaon, Faridabad and other Haryana‑NCR areas.

Officials said the measure is aimed at tightening compliance with emission standards and curbing air‑pollution levels in the densely populated NCR belt. By ensuring that only vehicles with a valid PUC can refuel, the government hopes to encourage regular testing and maintenance of vehicle exhaust systems.

Under the order, fuel pump operators are required to verify the PUC certificate before authorising any fuel transaction. Failure to adhere to the rule may attract penalties as prescribed under state environmental regulations.

The move aligns with broader state and central initiatives to improve air quality in the region, which has long struggled with high particulate matter concentrations. Authorities expect the enforcement to reinforce existing pollution‑control mechanisms and promote cleaner vehicular operation.

The Haryana administration has asked law‑enforcement agencies and the pollution control board to monitor compliance and report any violations promptly.
