The Haryana government is evaluating five distinct financing options aimed at reducing traffic bottlenecks on its state highways.

New Delhi – State officials in Haryana have begun a detailed assessment of five potential funding mechanisms to address chronic congestion on major highways. The proposals, which range from public‑private partnerships to dedicated toll‑based revenue streams, are intended to accelerate road‑widening and maintenance projects without overburdening the state budget.

Sources within the transport department said the models were shortlisted after consultations with finance experts, infrastructure firms, and local stakeholders. Each option is expected to be presented to the state cabinet for approval in the coming weeks.

If adopted, the financing plans could unlock several billion rupees for immediate upgrades, including lane additions, intelligent traffic management systems, and safety improvements. The move reflects Haryana's broader push to improve connectivity for commuters and commercial traffic linking Delhi with neighboring states.

The government has also indicated that any chosen model will incorporate safeguards to protect commuters from sudden fare hikes, while ensuring transparent fund allocation. The initiative aligns with the central government's emphasis on modernising regional transport corridors.

Stakeholders are watching closely, as successful implementation could set a precedent for other Indian states grappling with similar highway bottlenecks.
