Satellite data shows Haryana has cut crop burning by 65%, the lowest level in seven years, while Gurgaon recorded no farm fires in the same period.

Satellite imagery released by the state’s agricultural department indicates a 65% reduction in crop burning across Haryana, marking the lowest incidence in the past seven years. The decline was observed across key agricultural districts, with the most significant drops reported in the western and central parts of the state.

In a parallel development, Gurgaon district reported zero satellite‑detected farm fires for the period, a first for the region. The absence of fire incidents was confirmed by the state’s remote‑sensing unit, which monitors agricultural burning through infrared sensors.

Officials attribute the trend to a combination of stricter enforcement of the 2020 Crop Burning Ban Act, increased farmer awareness campaigns, and the introduction of alternative residue‑management technologies. The government also highlighted the role of community outreach programs in reducing the reliance on open burning.

The state plans to continue monitoring through the next cropping season, aiming to sustain the downward trajectory and further reduce the environmental impact of agricultural residue disposal.
