Gujarat UG Admission 2026: Almost 100,000 Seats Remain Unfilled After Eight Rounds

The Gujarat State Higher Education Commission (GSEC) released figures showing that, following eight rounds of undergraduate admissions for the 2026 session, nearly 100,000 seats across state colleges remain unfilled. The admission drive, which started in early June, has seen a gradual drop in fill rates despite outreach by the commission and individual institutions. Officials attribute the shortfall mainly to weak demand for certain streams such as arts and commerce, while professional courses continue to attract most applicants. GSEC warned that persistent vacancies could force a re‑opening of the counselling process or a reallocation of seats to other eligible candidates. Student groups and college administrators are urging the commission to provide clearer data and consider fee concessions or other incentives to boost enrollment.
