The central government has allocated an extra 1.6 gigawatts of electricity to Gujarat to meet rising consumption, while similar allocations were made to Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir.
New Delhi announced that Gujarat will receive an additional 1.6 GW of power from centrally‑owned generating stations to address a sharp rise in electricity demand across the state. The allocation comes as the state grapples with higher industrial output and a prolonged summer that has pushed consumption beyond normal levels.
The central power ministry said the extra supply will be routed through the existing transmission network managed by Power Grid Corp, ensuring minimal disruption to the grid. While Gujarat is the primary beneficiary, the ministry also confirmed that Tamil Nadu and Jammu & Kashmir will receive supplementary power to ease their own peak‑load pressures.
Officials indicated that the added capacity will be available from the next scheduled dispatch cycle, helping to stabilise the state's grid frequency and prevent load‑shedding during the peak evening hours. The move underscores the central government's role in balancing regional power deficits during periods of heightened demand.
