The Gujarat government has increased its rooftop solar subsidy, allowing households to install panels for just ₹5,400 as the state grapples with a power shortage.

Gujarat announced a significant hike in its rooftop solar subsidy, bringing the effective cost of installing a solar panel down to ₹5,400 per unit. The move is part of the state’s broader strategy to address a persistent power crisis and encourage renewable energy uptake among residential consumers.

The subsidy boost comes as the state endures frequent load‑shedding and rising electricity bills. By making solar installations more affordable, officials hope to reduce grid dependency, lower household energy expenses, and move closer to Gujarat’s renewable‑energy targets.

Gram Sevaks, the village‑level service workers, will play a key role in the rollout. They will assist residents with application procedures, coordinate with approved solar vendors, and ensure that the subsidy reaches eligible households promptly.

State authorities expect the scheme to trigger a wave of new rooftop installations in the coming months, contributing to a greener energy mix and easing the strain on the conventional power supply.
