A new Gujarat regulation now obliges buyers of agricultural land in Ahmedabad to disclose detailed transaction information, aiming to increase transparency in the real‑estate market.
The Gujarat state government has issued a notification mandating that anyone purchasing agricultural land in the Ahmedabad district must submit a comprehensive disclosure form to the Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. The form requires details such as the buyer’s identity, source of funds, intended use of the land, and any existing encumbrances. The information will be entered into an online portal accessible to authorities and, after a stipulated period, to the public. Officials say the measure is intended to curb speculative buying, prevent illegal conversions of farmland, and protect the interests of farmers. The rule comes into force from 1 November 2024, with a six‑month grace period for pending transactions to comply. Real‑estate analysts note that while the added compliance may increase transaction costs, it could also bring greater confidence to genuine investors and help the state monitor land‑use patterns more effectively.
