Gujarat Government Tightens School Regulations, Increases Penalties for Violations

The Gujarat state government has issued new directives to tighten norms in schools and has raised the fines for any breaches, aiming to improve safety and compliance.
The state cabinet approved amendments to the Gujarat School Education Act, introducing stricter standards for infrastructure, teacher qualifications, and student‑teacher ratios.
Under the revised rules, schools failing to meet the prescribed criteria will face increased monetary penalties, with fines rising from the previous amount to a higher bracket, as stipulated by the education department.
The education ministry said the measures are intended to curb recurring safety lapses and ensure uniform quality across public and private institutions, and will be enforced from the next academic session.
Officials will conduct periodic inspections and have set up a grievance redressal mechanism for parents and teachers to report violations.
