A fruit seller in Gujarat, aiming to launch his own venture, has agreed to let other aspiring entrepreneurs use his bank account for a fee of Rs 15,000.
A fruit vendor from Gujarat, who is in the process of setting up his own stall, has consented to allow other individuals to operate through his bank account for a charge of Rs 15,000. The arrangement, reported by local media, is intended to help those who lack access to formal banking facilities while the vendor seeks to generate additional income.
The vendor, who wishes to remain unnamed, said the fee would cover administrative costs and provide a modest profit margin. He added that the service would be limited to small‑scale traders who need a temporary account to receive payments and manage cash flow.
Authorities have not commented on the legality of the practice, but financial experts caution that sharing personal bank details can expose both parties to fraud and regulatory scrutiny. The vendor, however, maintains that the transactions will be transparent and documented.
If the model gains traction, it could illustrate a grassroots solution to the banking gap faced by many informal sector workers in rural and semi‑urban Gujarat.
