The state of Gujarat reports 25 deaths over the past five weeks due to a Chandipura virus outbreak, with health experts still uncertain about the source and spread of the disease.

Gujarat authorities have confirmed 25 deaths linked to the Chandipura virus over the last five weeks, marking a significant rise in the state's infectious disease burden.
The Chandipura virus, a rare pathogen that primarily affects children, causes fever, seizures and neurological complications. It has previously surfaced in parts of India, but its recent surge in Gujarat has alarmed public health officials.
In response, the Gujarat Health Department has dispatched epidemiologists to affected districts, increased surveillance in hospitals, and issued guidelines for early detection and treatment. Public advisories urge caregivers to seek immediate medical attention for children exhibiting high fever and convulsions.
Despite these efforts, experts remain perplexed about the virus’s transmission dynamics and environmental reservoirs. Further investigations are underway to identify potential vectors and to develop targeted containment strategies.
