The General Relief and Adaptation Plan (GRAP) Stage I has been triggered in Delhi‑NCR, imposing water‑use limits, construction halts and traffic curbs as authorities aim to curb rising pollution and manage resources.

The Delhi government, in coordination with the National Disaster Management Authority, announced on Tuesday that GRAP Stage I is now in force across the National Capital Region. The move comes as the city grapples with escalating water stress and deteriorating air quality during the peak summer months.

Under the new guidelines, residential water supply is capped at 100 litres per household per day, and non‑essential construction activities have been suspended until further notice. Heavy‑duty vehicles are restricted from entering the central business districts between 9 am and 5 pm, and a temporary traffic curfew will be enforced on major arterial roads after 8 pm.

Authorities said the restrictions are intended to reduce strain on the municipal water network, limit dust and emissions from construction sites, and improve overall environmental conditions. The stage will be reviewed after a fortnight, with the possibility of extension or relaxation based on compliance and air‑quality data.

Residents are urged to conserve water, avoid non‑essential travel, and cooperate with local enforcement agencies. A dedicated helpline (1800‑123‑4567) has been set up to address queries and receive reports of violations, which may attract fines or legal action.

The government emphasized that the measures are temporary but necessary, and promised regular public updates through official channels and the Indian Express coverage.
