Delhi's air quality index continued to drop, prompting officials to consider imposing Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) restrictions today.

Delhi's ambient air quality has deteriorated further today, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) climbing into the 'poor' category across most monitoring stations. Meteorological conditions, including low wind speeds and a temperature inversion, have trapped pollutants close to the ground, worsening the smog.

In response, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee is likely to activate the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) for the first time this season. GRAP outlines a tiered set of measures, ranging from restricting construction activities and banning the use of diesel generators to limiting the operation of heavy-duty vehicles and enforcing a ban on the burning of crop residue in neighboring states.

Officials from the state environment department confirmed that a decision will be taken by midday, and the public has been advised to limit outdoor exposure, use N95 masks, and keep windows closed. The enforcement will be monitored by the police and municipal authorities, with penalties for non‑compliance.
