The Ministry of Finance has unveiled a tax relief scheme for petrol, diesel and CNG pump operators, allowing them to settle pending 2024‑25 tax cases through self‑declaration.

The Ministry of Finance announced a new tax relief program aimed at petrol, diesel and CNG pump operators across the country. Under the scheme, operators can clear their outstanding tax liabilities for the 2024‑25 financial year by filing a self‑declaration, thereby avoiding the need for formal litigation or audit.

Eligible operators include those who have been operating a fuel dispensing point for at least five years and have a record of compliance with previous tax filings. The relief covers both direct taxes and applicable GST components, with a capped deduction limit set by the Ministry.

The self‑declaration process requires operators to submit a detailed statement of their earnings, expenses, and tax payments for the relevant period. Once verified, the Ministry will approve the settlement and issue a clearance certificate, allowing operators to resume normal business operations without further legal encumbrances.

Industry analysts say the move could boost liquidity for small fuel retailers and reduce the administrative burden on the tax authorities. The Ministry has set a deadline of 30 days from the announcement for operators to file their declarations.
