The Ministry of Education has launched a programme using Panchatantra stories to teach critical thinking and leadership skills to schoolchildren nationwide.
New Delhi – The Ministry of Education announced a nationwide initiative that will incorporate the ancient Panchatantra fables into school curricula as a tool for developing critical thinking and leadership among young learners. The programme aims to move beyond rote learning by using the moral and strategic lessons embedded in the stories to stimulate analytical discussion and decision‑making skills.
Under the plan, selected Panchatantra tales will be adapted into age‑appropriate teaching modules for primary and middle schools. Teachers will receive training and resource kits that include storybooks, activity guides and assessment tools designed to encourage students to analyse characters’ choices and draw parallels to real‑world situations.
Education officials said the approach leverages India’s rich cultural heritage to make learning more engaging while fostering competencies required for the future workforce. The rollout is scheduled to begin in the upcoming academic year, with pilot schools across several states participating before a full‑scale implementation.
The ministry expects the initiative to complement existing efforts to promote higher‑order thinking, creativity and ethical leadership, thereby preparing students to navigate complex challenges both in India and globally.
