A Goa resident who was registered as a voter has appeared before a court, alleging that the Election Commission asked him to submit a false declaration, which he says is unlawful.

A registered voter from the state of Goa has been summoned to a local court after claiming that officials of the Election Commission of India asked him to provide a false declaration. The voter, whose identity has not been disclosed, argued that such a request violates legal and ethical standards governing the electoral process.

During the hearing, the petitioner asserted that the alleged demand would compromise the integrity of his voting record and could set a dangerous precedent for future elections. He sought a judicial directive to prevent the Election Commission from enforcing the purported requirement.

The Election Commission has not yet responded publicly to the allegations. Legal experts note that any attempt to compel a voter to make a false statement could be deemed a violation of the Representation of the People Act, but the matter will depend on the court's interpretation of the evidence presented.

The case underscores ongoing concerns about administrative pressure on voters and highlights the need for transparent procedures in the electoral roll maintenance process. The court is expected to deliver its judgment in the coming weeks.
