Guru Nanak Dev University kicked off its A-Jon Youth Festival today, marking Amritsar's 450th anniversary with cultural programs, workshops and performances.
Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) inaugurated the A-Jon Youth Festival on Thursday, aligning the event with Amritsar’s 450th anniversary celebrations. The ceremony took place on the university’s main campus in Amritsar, Punjab.
The festival aims to engage the student community and local youth in a series of cultural, artistic and skill‑development activities. It is part of GNDU’s broader initiative to promote youth participation in heritage preservation and contemporary arts.
Program highlights include traditional Punjabi music and dance performances, interactive workshops on digital media and entrepreneurship, and a poetry slam featuring students from across the state. Competitions in painting, photography and short‑film making were also announced.
University officials welcomed participants and emphasized the importance of celebrating Amritsar’s rich history while encouraging young people to contribute to its future. The A-Jon Youth Festival is scheduled to run for a week, with daily events and a closing ceremony on the anniversary day.
