GeM Portal Purchases to Face Strict Probe for Any Irregularities, Says Amar Ujala

The news agency Amar Ujala reported that the government has issued a directive to scrutinise every transaction on the Government e‑Marketplace (GeM) portal. Under the new guidance, any sign of irregularity – whether procedural lapses, price manipulation or non‑compliance with procurement rules – will trigger an immediate investigation.

GeM, launched in 2016, serves as a digital platform for public sector entities to procure goods and services directly from registered vendors. It is intended to enhance transparency, reduce costs and streamline procurement across ministries and state departments.

The enforcement notice underscores the administration's commitment to curbing corruption and ensuring fair competition among suppliers. Vendors are urged to adhere strictly to the portal's guidelines, as violations could lead to penalties, contract termination or legal action.

While the announcement originated from a Madhya Pradesh news outlet, the directive applies to all central and state agencies using GeM, signalling a nationwide push for tighter oversight of public spending.
