Ganga Backwater Submerges Over 200 Bighas of Paddy in Nalanda’s Tal Area

Rapid spread of the Ganga backwater in the Tal area of Sarmera block, Nalanda, has flooded more than 200 bighas of paddy fields under five feet of water.
The backwater of the Ganga river has surged into the Tal region of Sarmera block in Nalanda district, creating flood‑like conditions across the agricultural belt. Fields in the villages of Pendhi and Purani Isua are reported to be under approximately five feet of water, submerging more than 200 bighas of standing paddy.
Local farmers observed the water level rising within hours, turning previously dry fields into a shallow lake. The inundation threatens the upcoming harvest, as the standing crop is now water‑logged and vulnerable to damage.
Authorities from the district administration have been alerted, and preliminary assessments indicate significant loss of produce. Relief measures and drainage efforts are expected to be coordinated to mitigate further impact on the farming community.
