The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India inspected over 56,000 establishments between Sept 1 and Nov 5, seizing non‑compliant dairy and sweet products and revoking 52 licences.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) concluded a sweeping enforcement drive that covered 56,431 food outlets across the country from September 1 to November 5. Inspectors visited manufacturers, retailers and wholesale units, checking compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act.

During the operation, officials seized approximately 3,280 tonnes of food items that failed to meet safety standards. The confiscated stock included paneer, ghee, milk and various sweets, all flagged for issues such as adulteration, sub‑standard packaging or expired shelf‑life.

In addition to the seizures, the regulator cancelled 52 licences of establishments found to be repeatedly non‑compliant. The cancellations were issued under the authority’s power to protect public health and deter future violations.

FSSAI officials said the data will be used to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and that further surprise inspections will continue throughout the year to ensure consistent compliance across the food sector.
