Fresh Rain Suspends Paddy Procurement in Haryana, Farmers Demand Compensation

Heavy rain in Haryana has temporarily halted the government's paddy procurement, prompting farmers to seek compensation and a relaxation of moisture‑content standards.

The recent downpour across Haryana has forced procurement agencies to pause the collection of paddy under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) scheme. Field officials reported that the wet conditions make it difficult to assess grain quality and meet the stipulated moisture limits.

Farmers, whose crops are now exposed to prolonged moisture, have approached local authorities requesting compensation for potential losses and a temporary relaxation of the moisture‑content criteria that normally determine eligibility for MSP payments.

State agricultural officials have acknowledged the situation and said they are reviewing the farmers' petitions. They indicated that any policy adjustment will be communicated once a thorough assessment of the weather impact is completed.

The suspension is expected to be short‑term, with procurement likely to resume once the fields dry sufficiently to meet quality standards. In the meantime, the agricultural department urges farmers to store their produce safely and stay in touch with procurement officers for updates.
