Police officials in Panna, Madhya Pradesh, announced the arrest of a man identified as Natwar Lal after a fraud investigation uncovered a elaborate scheme to swindle jewellery worth millions. The suspect was taken into custody following a raid on his residence, where investigators found evidence of the deception.
According to the police report, Lal pretended to have a newborn child and used the claim to gain the trust of potential victims, promising them gold and silver ornaments as a gesture of goodwill. He alleged that the valuables were hidden in a pit of soil on his property, urging the victims to contribute money for the child's future.
When authorities excavated the site, they discovered only an empty envelope instead of the promised jewellery, confirming that the entire narrative was fabricated. The case has been registered under sections pertaining to cheating, fraud and criminal conspiracy.
Investigators said that further interrogation will focus on identifying other individuals who may have been defrauded and on recovering any financial losses incurred by the victims. Natwar Lal is currently being held in custody pending trial.
