A tigress that killed four people over a 20‑day period in Maharashtra was found unconscious and captured by forest officials.
A female tiger, identified as a tigress, roamed parts of Maharashtra for nearly three weeks, during which it attacked and killed four individuals. The attacks, described by locals as a wave of terror, prompted heightened alerts across nearby villages and forest‑adjacent areas.
On the day of its capture, forest department teams located the animal near a water source, where it appeared weak and unresponsive. Using tranquilizer darts and a coordinated net‑capture operation, officials secured the tigress without further injury.
State wildlife officials confirmed that the animal will be taken to a rehabilitation centre for medical assessment. They also urged residents to remain vigilant and report any unusual wildlife activity while reinforcing the need for improved human‑wildlife conflict mitigation measures.
