Former Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Wadhing met Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and formally handed in his resignation to the party leader.

Amrinder Singh Raja Wadhing, who served as the state president of the Punjab unit of the Indian National Congress, travelled to Delhi on Tuesday and met senior party leader Rahul Gandhi. During the meeting, Wadhing presented his resignation letter, indicating his decision to step down from his post.

The resignation was handed over in a formal manner, with Wadhing stating that he shared his experience of leading the state party with Gandhi. He did not elaborate on the reasons behind his departure, focusing instead on the procedural aspect of the handover.

The development marks a notable shift in the Punjab Congress leadership, coming at a time when the party is seeking to reorganise its state structure ahead of upcoming electoral challenges. Rahul Gandhi acknowledged the resignation but did not comment further on the future composition of the state leadership.

Political analysts suggest that the move could pave the way for a new leadership team in Punjab, aiming to revitalize the party’s grassroots outreach. The Congress high command is expected to announce a successor in the coming days.
