Food safety officials in Indore confiscated unverified weighing scales and collected 26 samples of ghee, oil and khoya from 11 dairy and sweets shops before Diwali.

A joint team of the Food Safety Administration and the Measurement Department carried out a raid on 11 dairy and sweets outlets in Indore as the city prepares for Diwali celebrations. The officials seized unverified weighing equipment and, under the provisions of the 2006 Food Safety Act, collected 26 samples comprising ghee, cooking oil and khoya for laboratory testing.

The operation, aimed at curbing adulteration and ensuring consumer safety during the festive season, targeted popular establishments known for supplying sweets and dairy products. Authorities emphasized that the seized weighing scales did not meet legal calibration standards, prompting strict action.

Preliminary reports indicate that the samples will be analyzed for purity and compliance with safety norms. Any violations discovered could lead to penalties, product recalls, or closure of the offending shops, reinforcing the government's resolve to protect public health ahead of the high‑demand Diwali period.

The raid reflects a broader effort by state food regulators to intensify monitoring of food items that experience a surge in consumption during festivals, thereby safeguarding consumers from potential health hazards.
