Rajasthan’s Food Safety Department sealed Shri Shyam Foods’ facility at Jaipur’s Muhana Mandi and confiscated roughly 85 tonnes of pickles and raw material after dead reptiles were discovered inside the product containers.
During a surprise inspection under the state‑run “Shuddh Aahar‑Milavat Par War” campaign, officials of the Rajasthan Food Safety Department entered the premises of Shri Shyam Foods located in the bustling Muhana Mandi of Jaipur. The raid was part of a broader effort to curb adulteration and ensure hygienic standards in food processing units.
Inspectors found several jars of pickles containing the bodies of lizards and spiders, a clear sign of gross contamination. The presence of these dead creatures prompted immediate action, as the department deemed the products unsafe for human consumption.
In total, about 85,000 kilograms of pickles and associated raw materials were seized, and the entire facility was sealed pending further investigation. The seized stock includes both finished products and ingredients that could be used in future batches.
The department has informed the manufacturer that a detailed forensic analysis will be conducted, and any violations of the Food Safety and Standards Act could result in penalties, including revocation of the licence. The case underscores the vigilance of state authorities in safeguarding public health.
