During the festive period, Madhya Pradesh’s Food Safety Department inspected 14 confectionery and snack manufacturers, collecting 38 samples and issuing notices to two units after finding unsanitary conditions.
The Food Safety Department of Madhya Pradesh launched a surprise inspection across the state’s festive food market, targeting manufacturers of sweets, mawa, ghee and namkeen. The operation, timed with the peak buying season, aimed to ensure that products reaching consumers meet prescribed safety standards.
Inspectors visited 14 registered firms and collected a total of 38 samples for laboratory analysis. The sampling covered a range of items commonly consumed during festivals, including traditional sweets, dairy‑based preparations and savory snacks.
Preliminary laboratory results revealed the presence of unsanitary conditions in two of the establishments, prompting the department to issue formal notices to the concerned units. The notices cite violations such as inadequate hygiene practices and potential contamination of the food products.
Department officials emphasized that the crackdown is part of a broader effort to safeguard public health during high‑demand periods. They warned that any further non‑compliance could lead to stricter penalties, including suspension of licences.
Consumers are advised to check product labels and purchase from verified vendors, while the department plans to continue random checks throughout the festive season to maintain food safety standards.
