Heavy rains have inundated Srikakulam district, inflicting roughly ₹150 crore in damages and leaving paddy fields under water.
Heavy monsoon rains this week swamped large parts of Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh, prompting local authorities to declare a state of emergency. Preliminary assessments by the district administration estimate the total economic loss at around ₹150 crore, encompassing damage to infrastructure, homes and agricultural assets.
The most severely affected area is the Allina region, where standing water continues to cover extensive paddy fields. Farmers report that the waterlogged conditions are hampering sowing operations and could jeopardise the upcoming harvest season if drainage does not improve soon.
State disaster response teams have deployed rescue boats and sandbag barriers, while the Andhra Pradesh government has announced an immediate relief package to support affected families. Officials are also coordinating with the irrigation department to expedite de‑watering measures in the flooded farmlands.
The district collector has urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid low‑lying zones and cooperate with relief workers. Continuous monitoring of river levels will be maintained to prevent further escalation of the flood situation.
