Heavy monsoon rains have caused widespread flooding in Bihar, leaving more than 4 million residents across 14 districts displaced or stranded.
Heavy monsoon showers over the past few days have triggered severe flooding across Bihar, submerging roads, fields and homes in a swath of the state. The deluge has been reported in fourteen districts, stretching emergency services and local administrations.
State officials estimate that the flood has directly affected over 40 lakh people, many of whom have been forced to evacuate their homes or are stranded on rooftops awaiting rescue. Water levels in several rivers, including the Kosi and Gandak, have risen beyond danger marks, inundating low‑lying villages and cutting off critical transport links.
The Bihar government has mobilised the National Disaster Response Force, army units and state police to conduct rescue operations, while relief camps are being set up with food, drinking water and medical aid. Officials warn that the situation remains fluid, with the possibility of further rain aggravating the crisis, and appeal for public cooperation in evacuation orders.
