Five Victims of Guwahati Firing Receive Last Rites in Barpeta, Assam

On Tuesday, the bodies of five men who lost their lives during a police firing in Guwahati were brought to Barpeta in Baksa district for their last rites. The victims, all residents of Guwahati, were identified by local authorities and were buried following customary Hindu funeral rites.

The burial took place at a local cemetery in Barpeta, with family members and community leaders in attendance. Officials from the Assam Police and the district administration were present to oversee the proceedings.

The incident that led to the deaths occurred earlier in the week when police opened fire on a protest in Guwahati, resulting in multiple casualties. The families of the deceased have expressed their gratitude for the dignified handling of the burial process.

The Assam government has pledged to investigate the circumstances surrounding the firing and to provide support to the affected families.
