Sikkim recorded its first snowfall of the season, which has been accompanied by landslides that blocked several mountain roads.
Sikkim experienced the onset of winter with the season's first snowfall, covering the higher reaches of the state in a thin white layer. Meteorological officials noted that the cold front moved in early this week, bringing temperatures low enough for snow to form in the mountainous terrain.
The sudden accumulation of snow triggered a series of landslides across vulnerable slopes, particularly in districts that are prone to soil erosion. Several mountain roads were reported to be obstructed by debris, forcing local traffic to be diverted and halting the movement of goods and commuters.
