The upper reaches of the Kashmir Valley received the season’s first snowfall, while heavy rain battered Jammu, prompting the IMD to forecast further showers over the next two days.
Snow began falling in the higher altitudes of the Kashmir Valley early today, marking the first snowfall of the season for the region. Meteorological observers noted light to moderate snow accumulations on slopes above 3,000 metres, creating a white‑capped landscape that is typical of winter in the Himalayas.
At the same time, the adjoining state of Jammu experienced intense rainfall, with several districts reporting localized flooding and water‑logging. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued advisories warning of continued precipitation, forecasting additional showers across both Jammu and the Kashmir Valley for the next 48 hours.
Authorities have urged residents in the affected areas to exercise caution while traveling, especially on mountain roads that may become slippery due to snow and rain. Local disaster management teams remain on standby to respond to any emergencies arising from the weather conditions.
