A blaze broke out in a Bhopal shop when cloth stored near a furnace caught fire, prompting police to file an FIR against the shop operator. Firefighters contained the flames and hawkers are being relocated.
A fire erupted in a commercial shop in Bhopal after a piece of cloth kept close to a furnace ignited, officials said. The incident occurred in the city's central market area, where the shop is located near a small industrial furnace used for metalwork.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the cloth, stored improperly beside the furnace, caught fire and quickly spread to surrounding merchandise, causing significant damage to the premises. Witnesses reported hearing a loud crackle before flames became visible.
Local police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the shop operator, citing negligence in handling flammable material near a heat source. The FIR cites violation of safety norms and holds the operator responsible for the loss.
Firefighters from the Bhopal Fire Brigade arrived within minutes, using extinguishers and water hoses to bring the blaze under control. The response helped prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent shops.
Following the incident, municipal authorities have begun shifting nearby hawkers to safer locations to reduce the risk of similar accidents. An investigation into compliance with fire safety regulations is ongoing.
