A fire broke out at the Government Civil Hospital in Godhra, Gujarat, prompting the safe evacuation of more than 200 patients.

A blaze erupted in the Government Civil Hospital at Godhra, Gujarat, on Tuesday morning, sending smoke billowing from the building's upper floors. Hospital staff detected the fire shortly after it started and immediately activated the emergency response protocol.
Medical personnel, supported by local fire‑rescue teams, began evacuating patients from wards, intensive care units and outpatient areas. More than 200 patients, including several critical cases, were moved to nearby facilities and temporary shelters without any reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the state fire department and health authorities, who have cordoned off the premises for a thorough forensic examination. Preliminary reports suggest an electrical short circuit, but officials have not confirmed the exact source.
In the aftermath, the Gujarat health department announced that essential services would be restored at alternate hospitals while the damaged sections of the Godhra Civil Hospital undergo repairs. The department also pledged to review safety standards across all state-run medical institutions to prevent similar incidents.
