A tigress accompanied by three cubs was seen near a fish pond in Lakhnoti village, Manpur block, Umaria district, causing panic among locals. Forest officials from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve have been dispatched to monitor the situation.

Early Friday morning, a tigress accompanied by three cubs was observed close to a fish pond in Lakhnoti, a village in Manpur block of Umaria district, Madhya Pradesh. The unexpected presence of the big cat family near human habitation triggered fear among the residents, who reported the sighting to local authorities.

According to reports, the animals were moving slowly along the pond's edge, prompting villagers to stay indoors and keep a safe distance. The sighting has raised concerns about potential human‑wildlife conflict, especially in a region where agricultural fields and water bodies often attract wildlife.

In response, forest officials from the nearby Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve were immediately mobilised. A team of forest guards and wildlife monitors has set up a temporary observation post to track the tiger family's movements and ensure the safety of both the animals and the villagers.

Authorities have advised locals to avoid the area until the situation is assessed and to report any further wildlife activity. The incident underscores the ongoing challenge of managing tiger habitats that overlap with rural settlements in central India.

The forest department will continue to monitor the tigress and her cubs, and will consider relocation only if the animals pose a direct threat to human life or property, following standard wildlife management protocols.
